Bre's Week In Links 7-30-11

My attempt at being artsy. Pfffttt! I guess this highlights my ability to NOT keep my windows clean! :D

It's the end of the month and summer is finally starting to show its glorious face in the NW. FINALLY. It has literally been nothing but dreary, rainy weather all this summer, with maybe two weeks worth of sun scattered throughout. Usually it's sweltering by June (at least), and we've been robbed! If August and September decide to be warm and gorgeous, that's fine with me! I still need to take Jade out for his first swim somewhere!

Anyhow! Onto the links!

I am so in love with the Papa Said feature on Sometimes Sweet (in fact, I love that whole blog with every fiber of my being). Dads and their babies get me all aflutter. I long for Terry to contribute to it one day. I know he'd write something hilarious and adorable. One day...

I need these meme rings SO BAD. SO BAD!!!

Are you SERIOUS right now? I wish I'd stuck with crocheting! Actually, this makes me wanna dive back into it so I can make one of these to fling over the back of our couch! HOW AMAZING IS THIS?!

I'm loving sticky note apps! I have them on my computer desktop and on my phone! I use them constantly for little inspirational quotes and reminders!

Love this idea: taking photos of spots in your home that make you happy. I think I'm going to give it a go.

I fell for this bathroom. HARD.

Awwwww. This is so cute.

This "Incredible Machine" (remember that game? Super old school!) style video is INSANE.

Four new items up in the shop this week! I'm really loving working with beads!

Photodump!

I think this one's gonna be an occasional feature that I do whenever I feel I've built up enough snapshots. Here's my week in photos!

Jade was after my foot. This is an hourly occurrence. He's pretty strange.

Sunday's dinner: tofu stirfry. If you know me personally, you know that me cooking anything is a HUGE deal. Trying to hone my skillz before Jade gets old enough to eat real food. And I'm documenting it because I know no one will believe me :P

Jade being adorable.

Tuesday's dinner: some kinda tex-mex cheesy tofu & rice conglomeration. It was DELICIOUS.

Jade beating up on dad.

It's okay, they made up <3

Lunch in the Boeing parking lot during Terry's interview Wednesday

PleasepleasePLEASE let this work out! *fingers crossed*

Obligatory no-makeup-and-idgaf picture :D

Not a very exciting week, but I figured it was time to share something!

Love At First Sight #4!

Janine Basil of London owns the shop I fell in love with this week. She makes the most unique embroidered headbands and fascinators I've ever seen! I can't wait to get my grabbyhands all over one of those star pieces one of these days! The contrast of the pink stars with the blue hair in the first photo is effing gorgeous! And the exposed brain headband is so hilarious! I'll definitely be snatching this up for the Seattle Zombie Walk next year (if I can actually make it! Fingers crossed!).

You guuuyyyys! What fantastic things did you come across this week? Which Janine Basil item is your favorite? Leave some comment love!

Bre's Week In Links 7-23-11

New stuffs! :D bythethroat.etsy.com!

I love this tutorial on how to style a beehive! Looks much easier than all those Amy Winehouse-esque ones I read in the past calling for giant rolls of toilet paper! :D Will defnitely try it when my hair gets a little longer!

Vertigo-inducing photos. NEAT! But don't click if you're afraid of heights! You've been warned!

COLOURlovers is suuuuuper addicting. There are also an incredible amount of apps utilizing this site by third parties, as well. For example, Android users can get the apps "Pattern Wallpapers" and "I Love Color" and set user-created seamless patterns from the site as their phone's wallpaper! Super awesome! (Here's my profile! Teehee!)

I swear, Frances Bean Cobain is probably one of the most gorgeous women to ever grace the earth. Seriously. I can't help but literally gasp every time I see a photo of her.

This Marilyn Monroe statue in Chicago made part of me cringe and part of me squee.

OH MY GOD GIVEIT. The things I would do for this room!

This dress is so adorable. I have a gnarly thing for stripes.

Loved this tutorial on how to tie a head scarf. I've been trying to do this forEVER, to no avail! Seems easy, but sometimes I can't grasp the simplest of things... now I know!

Amy Winehouse has died. I still can't even believe it, I so desperately wanted her to get her life together. I loved her so much. So sad :'c Back To Black was an ENORMOUS part of my life in 2007. Such an amazing talent, it's so tragic. (How creepy is it that I referenced her in the link to that tutorial at the top of this post?! Added that a few days back, even. SUPER weird...)

I can't end this on a sad note. Here's a photo of Jade scooting across the floor! He's perfecting his crawling this week, and he's getting fast. Makes my heart melt!

Love At First Sight #3!

Yay! I actually am able to get around to blogging this week! And it's time for me to gloat about this Etsy shop I found a few weeks back! In fact, you might remember me sticking a link to this shop in one of my previous "Bre's Week In Links" features!

This week, we're focusing on Sarah Norton from Toronto, who makes adorable dark-themed jewelry from polymer clay. Her shop is called Beat Black and everything is absolutely incredible! She reached inside me, grabbed my inner angsty goth teen and shook her back to life! The above are just a few of my favorite selections. That jawbreaker locket is to die for. I want it I want it I want it!!!

When you're done checking out her shop you can also check out her site/blog, like her on Facebook and follow her on Twitter!

What about you guys? What Etsy treasures did you dig up this week?

Shoes-day Tuesday #1!

1. T.U.K. "Fairy Teal Romance" heel $109.99
2. Dr. Martens "Darcie" in white $115
3. Jeffrey Campbell "Fox Tick" in bright green $169.95
4. Jeffrey Campbell "Lita Fur" in Cheetah Fuchsia $194.95
5. T.U.K "Spider Attack" Green & Pink Leopard Print Antipop $32
6. Finsk "Cinza" (WHAT?!?!) $999.95

I fell very hard for some shoes this week. And while I highly doubt I'll ever be able to afford any of these beauties (besides #5, and maaaaybe #2, Chivahn's got them in every color and I'm obsessed), I can always look, right? And obsess, and wish... and chances are some of you will appreciate them, as well :D

The things I would do for #6... holy hell, those things are INSAAAAANE!!! Not sure if I'd actually brave wearing them, or just put them up on a shelf to admire. I think I'd be okay with either :P

Bre's Week in Links 7-17-11

Changed my bangs! I'm in love with the way they turned out because of the turquoise underneath the tips! Excuse my serial killer look...

My life (in spilled nail polish)

This post about Carmageddon! I really need that t-shirt in my life...

This week I miss Santigold! Watch, I'm gonna go see what she's up to and find out she released a crapload more music or something...

I need more fancy people to follow on Pinterest! Shameless self promotion! Add me!

I fell hard for these shoes in grey this week! Thinking about getting them, gonna sit on it for a bit.

This photo made me really wish I could get more tattoos... TOO GORGEOUS!

I just want to say that Xbox support are the best! Got a free Xbox by way of the Windows 7 student promotion this last week and somehow messed up our ability to get either Xbox to connect to our network while trying to get mine online! We got the best lady ever to help us, I wish I could remember her name, but I can't! Just wanna say thank you, mystery lady! You saved the day, possibly the month! <3

These Jeffrey Campbells are what my dreams are made of (I'm a shoe ho, what can I say?)

Of course, our trip to Shipwreck Beads last Wednesday! This trip was too epic and magical, I wish we could do it every week!

"I miss in music" double-banger! Anyone remember Dot Allison? This song came out when I was about 16 years old, and it's still amazing to this day! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for trip-hop.

In other trip-hop news, PORTISHEAD are touring! Holy crap! They're coming to Seattle in October, I really wanna go!

This print on Etsy made me very happy.

I got really mad that no one makes these kinds of phone cases for Androids! Come on, now! iPhone people aren't the only people in the world! Might have to make something similar myself...?

These plugs are incredible!

The Wild Wacky Action Bike commercial never gets old.

Loving Google+ so far, just needs more interesting people! Add me!

xoxo, Bre

P.S. Moved this to Sunday 'cause it doesn't really make sense to have it on Monday. Not sure what I was thinking, heh! Might even move next's week's to Saturday 'cause that would make even more sense.

Quick question...

Anyone here work with Ice Resin, particularly for casting? I am having the damndest time adding color to it. It never totally hardens, but stays somewhat flimsy/rubbery no matter how little color I add to it. Considering giving up on the Ice Resin and only using it for filling bezels, and instead using something quick-setting like Amazing Casting Resin for my casting needs.

Thoughts? Tips? Any input is appreciated! I wanna get back to making fancies asap!

Shipwreck Beads!

Okay, so I took a grand roadtrip to Shipwreck Beads in Lacey, WA yesterday (about 83 miles south of my home in Everett!) with my good friend Chivahn of Toxic Heart Couture and her hilarious friend Rue of Dreadful Designs. This place is nothing short of awe-inspiring, and totally worth the insane drive. It boasts the largest collection of beads in the world and has a grand total of 33 aisles split in two, two rooms off to the sides, and it has its own little cafeteria! First off, the sidewalk outside is paved with beads. What?! When you first walk inside, it appears to go back forever. Literally! At the bottom of this collage, you can see a sampling of some hilarious food and beer beads I found. They have everything!

(And please forgive my awful photography skills!)

Here we have some shots of our fabulous treasure piles. If you're expecting to leave with a haul (and why wouldn't you?!), they supply you with a cart, bead trays, a little tree thing to hang your strands from (the post facing the camera is full of my strands, you can tell by all the turquoise...) and a pile of slips of paper to write down item numbers of loose pieces. So amazing. The bottom is a shot of some little loose charms I grabbed up! Sewing machines, lightning bolts and swords, among other things! SO AWESOME!!!

I'm really hoping to make this a regular thing. As if going shopping in the world's largest bead store isn't badass enough in and of itself, it's just good for me to get out and socialize with friends every once in a while :D That REALLY doesn't happen very often! And next time I'm taking a LOT more money!

On a side note, a winner was picked for the cherry blossom necklace! Jenna of Jacksonville, Florida! YAY! She'll be receiving her prize very soon! <3

Until next time!
xoxo, Bre

Effed up...

Totally forgot that this week is midterms week, so that mixed with the epic Shipwreck Beads roadtrip today made me totally space the "Love at First Sight" feature! Eff! To make up for it, I'll be doing a small picture post tomorrow documenting this epic adventure. If you're local (Pacific NW area) and work with beads in any capacity, YOU NEED TO GO HERE. Save up a few hundred and make the trip. SO AMAZING. I want to live there!

Also, last chance to enter to win the cherry blossom pendant! A winner will be picked later today! Go go go!

Exhausted! It's been a long day, so for now, goodnight <3

Bre's week in links!

This is the mini haul I brought home today (oil paints for coloring resin, glitter for, well, glittering it!)! Woohoo! Crafty hiatus OVER!

This video my friend Abra posted! This is probably the funniest thing I've seen all year! Sexy Sax Man Careless Whisper Prank! The part in Walmart KILLED me.

This wig (7-25-11: I feel like I need to post a link to this as a disclaimer, I can't in good conscience promote this shop when you can get the exact same thing on ebay for a fraction of the price :/)

This blog. Kaelah is so adorable, I can't even take it!

Also, this blog. I'm now addicted to finding other "alt" mommies!

Capturing this picture made my whole week! My Grampa and my little boy.

This was yoinked from Gala Darling, but I still thought it was adorable! Stylish 70 year old women!

This Etsy shop! I WANT EVERYTHING!

This blog post. It couldn't be more true if it tried. I use my phone as a camera WAY more than I do my "camera" camera. How about you?

THIS HAIR *GASP AND SWOON!*

This dishcloth! Short, sweet and to the point!

I have a HUGE crush on Israel Hilton right now <3

I want this dress so bad, it actually hurts.

And last but not least, rediscovering music from my early teens. I MISS LUSCIOUS JACKSON! They were so amazing!

Bre

Love At First Sight #2

I know this shop has been getting plenty of coverage as of this week (she was featured in an Etsy newsletter last Thursday), but I can't help myself. I am IN LOVE with marymaryhandmade!!!

This Narwhal necklace alone was able to make me wish $45 would magically appear in my Paypal:

How adorable is that? I really, really need it in my life!

What did you fall in love with this week?
