Bre's Week In Links/Instagrams 11-9-12

BREAKFAST PRINCESS PONY!!!! (source)
This week; meh. Not much going on, compared to the excitement of last week *eyeroll*

Started looking for work on Friday, had an interview on Saturday. Hoping this one pans out, I'd be working with some excellent shoes!

Did some grocery shopping, ran some errands. Watched the Election coverage all night on Tuesday in a state of pure anxiety, just to be relieved very quickly after the west coast polls closed. Ya know. Nothing going on. So, let's look at some links and hope next week is more exciting!

These boots are FABULOUS. That corset detailing up the sole is killing me!

This eyebrow technique is so simple, I'm pissed that I never thought of it myself! Archy eyebrows = <3

Notable Spring 2013 shoes. Ohhhhh, Mr. McQueen! Also, Bottega Veneta. HOLY GOD.

Gala's personal account of Hurricane Sandy.

 Typestaches!!!

I recently happened upon this designer's blog by way of Courtney Love's Pinterest. I am HOOKED and everything about this post makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

A cocktail made with beer? Actually sounds delicious.

Gorgeous shot of a church tower in a flooded Italian town via Amanda Palmer.

Dat boy <3 He's started really favoring his left hand. So stoked that he picked that up from his dad!
FINALLY got my replacement Francheskas on Thursday. They are so uncomfortable :c BUT I'm relieved that this whole debacle is over. Going to break these in and make them wearable if it's the LAST THING I DOOOOO!
Aaaaaand that's it! Stick around for more excitement next week!

Knockoff Ninja #24 - Jeffrey Campbell "Night Walk" pt 2!

Jeffrey Campbell "Night Walk" in Black Pebble available at Solestruck ($169.95)

Vintage "Goddess-02" in Black Leatherette available at AMI Clubwear ($35.99 - restocked as of 4/14/13!)

The Goddess-02 is also available in Royal Blue Suede, Tan Suede, Red Suede, and Leopard Suede.

As you may know, I bought these in a fit of squee in September. I wore them out once to go bar hopping on Hewitt in Everett and was VERY pleased! Super comfy as you'd expect any decent wedge to be. Also, very similar in shape, and the faux leatherette is excellent quality. The only issue is that these run small (as do most shoes from the brand "Vintage")! Luckily, I had already read that thanks to UrbanOG and ordered an 8.5. Get a half size up!

See my Jeffrey Campbell "Night Walk" part one post!

DWD Shoes/Discount Womens Dress Shoes Review/Warning

Finally filed a dispute with DWDShoes/Discount Womens Dress Shoes via Paypal because it's been over a month since they received my return package, according to USPS delivery confirmation. No replacement boots, no refund, no nothing. Guys, please don't shop this site. I've been had, a friend has been had, and I can't even imagine how many other people are dealing with this.

Here's my experience in full:

I ordered a pair of boots (the Black PU Francheska-07, referenced at the end of this post) on Sept 14th, which I received on Sept 20th. They were great, but they fit small, so I returned them (with my OWN money, they don't offer return shipping) to the address on the RMA slip included in the package on Sept 21st. They were marked as delivered in the tracking info on Sept 24th. I contacted DWD Shoes on the 26th to inquire about why I hadn't yet heard back, and was told that they had not yet received the package.

After a few more questions over the next week, it turned out that they were in the middle of a move (why didn't they mention that right away?) and that the package was being forwarded from their previous warehouse's address. Also, by this time, the boots I needed to exchange for were completely out of stock. I figured I'd wait a little longer to see if they would restock them. A few weeks later, it didn't seem like anything was being restocked, so I emailed them on Oct 19th, letting them know I would like to exchange for a different pair that they had in stock, the Brown Leopard Suede Francheska-07. Emailed again on Oct 25th to let them know I'd waited far too long and would like the exchange or a refund immediately.

As of November 4th, I still haven't received any correspondence from customer service themselves, even after filing a dispute with Paypal. I had to actually contact the social media manager via Facebook to actually move anything along! She said that she was going to put my exchange request through to the customer service supervisor, and that's all I know thus far. Going to escalate this to a claim if I don't see my package within the week. The Better Business Bureau is also going to hear from me.

I wanted to believe that this was all circumstantial because of their major move they're in the middle of, but after some quick research I came up with complaints dating as far back as 2011. Check it out:

29 complaints filed with the BBB: http://www.la.bbb.org/business-reviews/General-Merchandise-Retail-By-Internet/Discount-Womens-Dress-Shoes-in-City-of-Industry-CA-100100962

Not to mention they started citing hurricane Sandy as a possible reason why their email was bouncing, when it was happening weeks before that! Check it out:

After digging a little deeper, I found that they also run an ebay store under the name *v*boots2shoes*v*. Negative feedback? 72 in the last month. Just throwin' that out there.

I usually want to keep this a positive place where everybody on a budget like myself can find awesome shoes and boots, but after this gnarly experience, I just can't not do anything to warn you guys. Please stay away from this company, or, if you feel like you must, order with EXTREME caution!

I'll update this post as things develop.

UPDATE, NOV. 7TH: I finally received a phone call on Nov. 6th. I was told that my return package had likely been lost, but they were going to ship me a pair of replacement boots anyhow. I was emailed a tracking number shortly after, and the boots are scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Nov. 8th). I'm very pleased with this outcome, however, I'm still in total disbelief of just how long it took to resolve.

My final verdict is to shop with extreme caution, if you feel you must. Hopefully this is all just circumstantial, but I guess only time will tell.

If you're still positively ACHING for some Vintage Francheskas, but are wary of these guys, have no fear! You can pick them up at Zooshoo, Boutique To YouUrbanOG, AMI ClubwearShiekh Shoes, and Make Me Chic! I've got your backs <3

I also want to take the time to apologize if any of you ordered from these guys and had any issues after my recommendation. I am so, so sorry. I feel your pain, seriously. I especially feel the need to say this because I also referred a friend who had a much larger order (her father ordered a haul of boots for her birthday) and had an outcome similar to mine. A pair in her order somehow went out of stock, she was never notified, and ended up having to wait three weeks to get the remaining boots that were still in stock as well as the refund for the boots that were out of stock (harassing them via email the whole time and largely being ignored, mind you). So just be careful, guys.

UPDATE, NOV. 8TH: I received my boots today and all is well. I'll be dropping the Paypal dispute, but I'm still not going to recommend this site.

Music Monday #48 - Crystal Castles

I swear, after this week, I'll cool it with the Crystal Castles. It's definitely past time for me to swap out the music on my phone, haha!

Speaking of, I had some weirdo dreams about this group the other night. In a series of weirdo dreams. If you're familiar with Crystal Castles, I dreamt that I was some kinda CSI agent or something who uncovered some grisly truths behind the song "I Am Made of Chalk", which, it turned out, contained screams of actual murder victims.  Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me too much if someone spread an urban legend similar to that in real life. That song is actually seriously creepy, without having my subconscious tack nonsense onto it. Later that night, I also dreamt that Britney Spears had died and that Avril Lavigne had committed suicide after not being able to handle the ridicule that came with being engaged to Chad Kroeger.

What the hell, bro?

ANYHOW! Ha! Add me on last.fm, if you feel so inclined. Or don't. Because I have obviously suffered head trauma at some point D:

Bre's Week In Links/Instagrams 11-2-12

Adventure Time tattoo flash AHHHHHH (source!)
I decided I need to start doing a mini-recap of the past week in these posts, since I almost NEVER talk about myself on here. Hello, my name is Bre, I'm a shoe and caffeine addict, and I've been running this blog for the past year and four months. Haha! Seriously, though. There's quite a bit more to me than that, and none of it is perfect, by any means. I think I'm done trying to fit in this cookie-cutter mold of what I feel like a blogger should be. Whatever that is. I'm pretty opinionated, and I cuss a lot (except in front of my son, of course!). So, good or bad, you're gonna have to deal with it! You're welcome! :D

To say that this week was uneventful would be a complete lie. Saturday night involved me having a little too much fun with far too many PBRs on an empty stomach at some friends' party in Stanwood and I wound up in the ER at Cascade Valley. In my Hipster Ariel getup. Yep, because I am that awesome *eyeroll* 28 years old, you'd think I'd know my limit, right? Working on that. The next few days were spent writhing in agony, puking and sleeping, all the while finally catching a bug that my Grampa had been dealing with for a few days. Barely mustered the strength to dress Jade in a quick cowboy costume for a brief trick-or-treating adventure at the Everett Mall on Halloween. That was pretty short-lived because he was seriously unamused by the whole experience. It felt the way I'd imagine being trapped among a herd of costumed cattle would feel. Hopefully next year he's more into it and we can find somewhere more fun to go.

This week I also finally got a hold of DWD Shoes about my month-late exchange through Facebook, of all places. I'm drafting up a post on this whole debacle as we speak as a warning to everybody, anyhow. Expect to see that sometime next week, and in the meantime stay away from that site! The prices and inventory are right, TRUST ME, I know! But it's not worth it to have to wait more than a month to see any end result.

Thursday was my brother's birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOOM!!!), and involved a great deal of lazing about in a t-shirt. Today looks like I'll be off to see my counselor to defrag the ol' brain and sort out this last weekend, haha! As for this weekend, who knows? Most likely a few errands, and I'll probably look around for temporary employment over the holidays. Gotta do something with my time before I go totally insane, not to mention start thinking about paying off that ambulance and hospital bill. Holy eff.

ONTO THE LINKAGE!

How about that Hurricane Sandy business? Pretty scary. I realized this week that I follow WAY more NYC people than I thought, and was super scared for a ton of them. Glad everyone was safe. Here are some notable posts on the subject from Gala Darling and Driven By Boredom (HOW CRAZY IS IGOR?).

This piece at Aurora Lady on Courtney Love is AMAZING. I, too, looked up to Courtney immensely as a teenager and Pretty on the Inside was my personal high school soundtrack, but next to no one got it. AURORA DOES <3 That part about wanting to like Nirvana but never being hit in the gut by them felt like it was written for me. Are we the same person...?

Stella Rose, I am in love with you.

The top 10 scariest shoe posts of 2012. This is pretty hilarious. I've already shared a few of these links individually over the last year, but they really don't get old.

OBEY CROCHET IS BACK! I LOVE this blog!

Style boards inspired by The Shining <3

Loving shoes with subtle zipper detailing right now!

Best. Costume. EVER! This takes a close second, that makeup is goddamn FLAWLESS.

Hipster Jade is hipster as eff.
Michael Myers watched me pee D: A little bit unnerving...
Me: "I wanna be where the PBR." PBR: "I wanna put you in the hospital! LOLZ"
Bleh. Worst hangover ever, two days later. But my hair is fabulous!
Quickie costume. I could not for the life of me get my phone to take a decent picture :/
Feeding dad enchiladas was way more fun than herding cattle for candy :3
tl;dr. Not really. But seriously. Probably :P

UNTIL NEXT WEEK!

DID YOU VOTE YET?!?!

Knockoff Ninja #23 - Jeffrey Campbell "Vicious"

Jeffrey Campbell "Vicious" in Black available at Solestruck ($209.95), FlyJane ($220.00)

Vintage "Goddess-01" in Black Suede available at UrbanOG ($46.60), AMI Clubwear ($48.99), Zoo Shoo ($56.00)

These have been available for a little while, but I was sorta hesitant to post about them when they first made rounds. The shape is similar, but the curve in the wedge is more of a "crescent" shape than other heelless wedges in the Vintage "Goddess" series, making them look a bit... blocky. I'm not big on the entire shoe being made out of that faux suede, either. BUT, it is definitely a viable replica, and looks much more attractive on the foot. I just really wish they were made of a leatherette. I'll give 'em a C.

As with any shoes made by the brand "Vintage", please consider ordering a half size up!

What do you think?
