Bre's Week In Links/Instagrams 11-30-12

This.
Another fairly uneventful week, spent a lot of time with Terry, who had a huge chunk of vacation, for a change. Did some cleaning for Chivahn, but mostly just hung out and watched a lot of Netflix, haha!

Got my first ever pair of Jeffrey Campbells on Wednesday, which Terry scored for me during Nasty Gal's Black Friday blowout. $70.50 for Lita Spikes, can you effing believe that?! I love them to death and I can't wait to wear them out! Thinking I'm going to grab all my dupes and do a physical comparison post now that I have nearly every knockoff on hand :D

Got back into the DIY thing Thursday night, altered some surprisingly decent jeans I scored from a clearance rack at Walmart, and finally cut up a Rob Zombie tour shirt I bought at Mayhem Fest 2 1/2 years ago! Stoked to build an outfit around it, although I won't really be able to wear it out because it's pretty crass, haha! I'll wear it to a bar some night or something.

In more serious bsns news, I've been on the celexa I mentioned before for exactly two weeks and I'm seeing a pretty considerable difference in the mood and anxiety department. I've noticed that I've been a lot less sad, overall, which is of course the main outcome I was going for. But Thursday night, as I was tackling all these alteration projects, I was blown away that I was actually getting anything done. I have a huge problem with being anxious and overly critical of myself. It really shows when I attempt any project wherein there's a risk that I might destroy something that can't be replaced, i.e. old, out-of-print t-shirts. I can't begin to tell you how many t-shirt surgeries and half-finished sewing projects I have lying around all over the earth because I got too worried I'd mess it up. But last night, that thought never crossed my mind. When I finally realized that, I was so pleased. Maybe this will re-open my creative outlet. I'll report back on that :D

 GAH THE SOLESTRUCK WAREHOUSE *dead*

Ya know, I'd heard of this trick before, but never actually tried it. I HAVE BEEN TRANSFORMED. Lining the upper waterline is now in my daily makeup regimen. My teeny eyelashes look INSANE. Also, shoutout to MAC Fluidliners! Totally one of my holy grail products!

Enter to win a $1,000 gift card in Miss KL and I Hate Blonde's giveaway!

THEM STAR WEDGES HOLY EFF. 8 inches! NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!

Hai.

AH GOT SOME LITA SPIKES!!!! GAHHHHH!!!

Knockoff Ninja #27 - Jeffrey Campbell "Edea"

Jeffrey Campbell "Edea" in Black available at Solestruck ($209.95 $144.95), Karmaloop ($206.00 $154.95), Nordstrom ($219.95), Revolve Clothing ($225.00), Urban Outfitters ($230.00)
Nature Breeze "Dana-08" in Black available at Make Me Chic ($32.50)

These dupes are the centerpoint of this week's should-I-buy-or-should-I-not dilemma. I was pretty late to the sneaker wedge party (or, "snedge", as the ladies in my FB shoe group call 'em, haha!). I flat-out didn't like the look of the first wave of styles that were being put out last spring. It wasn't until I actually saw a cheap pair on UrbanOG recently that I started to like them at all. I HAVE HIGH SNEDGE STANDARDS.

First of all, the wedge has got to be completely covered, or else what's really the point? They're supposed to add height in a sneaky manner, but if you can clearly see the wedge, it cheapens the whole look. I prefer them to look like actual sneakers, as opposed to a sneaker with a wedge lazily slapped on. (Example)

Second, the wedge has to be fairly wide. The pairs featuring a severely tapered wedge just look strange to me from behind (the UrbanOG ones I linked above are an exception because they are so cute in all other aspects).

Third, NO WEIRD COLORBLOCKING! I don't know about you guys, but I am really over this trend. I was over it before it started, but it looks like it's not going anywhere for a while. That makes me go :c (Example, especially the pink/black/cognac)

So, what do you guys think of this week's shoe? Kind of a huge departure from the kind of shoes I usually pick apart, but I think these are great. They look really comfy and are super similar to JC's version. I could see these in a violent showdown for my attention against my black and grey zebra print lo-top chucks. I'd get a ton of wear out of 'em.

Bre's Week In Links/Instagrams 11-23-12

Accurate. Gramma and I have been teaching Jade to draw stars :3
This is late, I know. I wasn't really near a computer for the past week and only had this post half completed because I was busy scheduling all the other posts for the week before I was sans-computer. I AM COMPLETING IT NOWWW.

Thanksgiving was awesome. Jade, Terry and I had dinner with Terry's mom and niece on Wednesday evening, then Thursday we went to an early dinner over at my dad's house (who, if you didn't know, I hadn't seen in about 10 years prior to this summer. Long story.). That whole side of the family finally got to meet Terry for the first time, which was pretty neat. Then we continued to stuff ourselves over at my mom and step-dad's house and I snuggled my estranged cat, Yeti. I miss that boy. Mom also found a buttload of old clothes I thought I had lost while she was cleaning up the laundry room, which was super exciting! Found a long-lost pair of Guess jeans from when I worked there (that I'll never fit into again, haha!) and one of my favorite old Union Jack tees! WHOOHOO!

Friday, we went out into the retail hell that is Black Friday very briefly to pick up a few Christmas presents for the Jade boy. It actually wasn't too bad, the crowds tend to die down a lot as the day goes on.

Continuing with my undefeated rekindling-of-relationships streak as of late, I contacted an old friend I had a nasty falling out with over five years ago and that had a better outcome than I could have ever hoped for (I actually posted about wanting to contact her ages ago, that can be found here)! Excited about the possibilities of that one, I seriously missed that girl WAY more than I even realized! <3

WHAAAAALLLLEEEEE!!! A real life Moby Dick was spotted off the coast of Norway!!! GAH I LOVE WHALES.

This tour of a super neat room belonging to a bunch of little boys is SUPER inspiring. One day...

AHHHHH lookit this parallel between this Marceline and the Scream Queens comic and No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom" album cover!!! Fangirling like hell. One of my favorite albums, EVER.

Winter 2012/2013 Sergio Rossi collection *swoon*

These freakishly lifelike masks are... super creepy. And yet fascinating.

I was mentioned on one of my favorite shoe blogs for leaving a link to an Alexander McQueen knockoff AHHHHHHH!!!

 Lulzy Adventure Time crossovers!

This is an older t-shirt surgery tutorial, but I am OBSESSED and am definitely going to make it soon. This site is soooo effing awesome!

I want this to be my everyday life. WHY NOT ME?

Knockoff Ninja #26 - Christian Louboutin "Lady Max"

Christian Louboutin "Lady Max" in Black available at Barney's ($1,495.00)

Shoe Republic LA "Kirsten" in Black available at Go Jane ($35.20), AMI Clubwear ($39.99)

I did a double take when I first saw these ones. Some subtle differences, yes, but overall, still fabulous. The added platform is a nice bonus and is sure to make these just that much more comfortable. The silver stiletto is gorgeous. The only thing I really miss on the replicas is the glitter detail behind the spikes!

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Shoes-day Tuesday #39 - Iron Fist Fall '12

1. "Ruff Rider" Platform in Pink $59.99
2. "Treasure Box" Super Platform $89.99
3. "Starry Night" Super Platform $59.99
4. "Tigre & Bunny" Wedge $59.99
5. "Nightrider" Platform Bootie $84.99
6. "Don't Cross Me" Bootie $79.99

I have an ongoing love affair with Iron Fist. My first seriously 'quirky' pairs of pumps were from these guys; they were my gateway drug, if you will (well, after Demonia...). I have the "Zebracorn" and turquoise "Jungle Fever" pumps and they're still some of my all-time favorites. Still looking to add the "Zombie Stomper" to my collection, too! I was pretty tickled when all these started popping up everywhere, especially all the styles with the Super Platform construction. I love the look of them! Those turquoise wedges are to die for as well. You can't really see it in my collage, but the leather has some crazy stamped design going on. It's gorgeous! Also, the fact that Izzy Hilton/Luna Lovebad is one of their current posterchildren thrills me to my very core. I ADORE her!

Were you ever into Iron Fist? Which styles did you snag?

Music Monday #50 - Crystal Castles

Okay, okay, so I lied. When I promised no more Crystal Castles, I TOTALLY forgot they were releasing a new album like a week after that. Oh well. I already did a half-assed review in this post, so I'll just direct you there, ha! Super good.

I did actually do a huge music swap on my phone so I'd quit listening to that same old crap in the car, though! I find myself gravitating toward a lot of old school late '70s/early '80s punk rock/post-punk lately. I can't get enough of it.

Add me on last.fm iffn' ya wanna!

Bre's Week In Links/Instagrams 11-16-12

I laughed SO HARD at this and everyone just kinda thought I was insane >_<
This week was also uneventful *dramatic groan*

I got a hold of the new Crystal Castles album, which was sort of off-putting on first listen because Alice Glass' usual I'm-going-to-rip-your-face-off-in-a-blind-fury approach is mostly absent. I actually referred to it as an imbalance in Alice's overall rage to drugs ratio, wherein the drugs won out, hands down. But, after repeated listenings while not trying to think of III as II pt. 2 (see what I did there?), I found it pretty enjoyable. SO THAT WAS RIVETING, YOU GUYS. Probably the highlight of my week. Highlights of the album? Tracks 4 and 11, Affection and Mercenary.

Thursday I was able to get in to see the nurse practitioner at the place where I get my brain defragged (counseling, for those just joining me) to talk about possible anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds, because yes, I am one of those socially-inept and emotionally-abundant people. I was prescribed a pretty mild mix of the two, so I'm anxious (LOL) to see how that works out for me. So, this week will at least be interesting in a dry mouth, possible violent spins sort of way.

So that was my week. This coming week will be spent furiously scrambling about trying to figure out how I'm gonna cram three Thanksgiving gatherings into one day and then possibly work the next morning for Black Friday. Whoohoo! *flail*

Nicholas Kirkwood did the shoes for the Victoria's Secret fashion show, and the company Stef works for did the corsets! Pure magic. Part 1part 2.

Whiskey sour was my signature drink for a looooong time until they started making me sick when bartenders used too much sour mix. I'm anxious to try this recipe for a more genuine whiskey sour!

This was meant to go into last week's Week In Links post, but somehow I missed it when I was compiling it. Bonnie's "So You Wanna Be A Blogger?" part one and part two. Seriously worth reading!

Joe tackles some dumb double standards she has to deal with working in a gentlemen's club. I actually think that term is stupid, but I felt awkward about blurting out "STRIP CLUB". Which I just did there. Oh well. It's a pretty fascinating read, as is pretty much anything she's ever written <3

 PUMPKIN ALL THE THINGS

LOOKIT HEIDI KLUM'S VERSACE SHOES. JUST LOOK.

Obsessed with star tights this week! Just wish some of 'em weren't so expensive, I can't bring myself to pay more than $5 a pair. 1, 2, 3.

For whatever reason, #fakegeeks has been trending on Twitter for the last week and some of my favorite local geeky girls have stepped forward and fired right back. Nothing short of awesome. Here's a piece from Morgue Anne, and I'm waiting on Molly McIsaac's sketch <3

I've been very strange these last two weeks, scheduling buttloads of posts WEEKS in advance. WAT.
"Effen" Vodka. I lol'd.
That boy. That hat <3
